Joe Doyle

My initial interest in photography started via astronomy. When I realised the power of digital photography back in 2002, I become very interested in photography and joined Malahide Camera Club. Initially I focussed on photographing seascapes and landscapes. Since those early day, I have taken many night sky, nature, portrait and sports images and been lucky enough to receive international awards for my photos.

Hebrides

This image was taken in Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland.  Three of us from the club went over there on a photo trip.   We were blessed with the light and the beaches are stunning. I really liked the light one evening and made some international camera movement images. These are photographs where you capture the light for one or more seconds which leads to abstract and painterly images.  I wanted to create an abstract ethereal image and did so through careful movement of the camera over a time interval of 2 seconds. To be able to make a photograph over that time period,  I had to put a neutral density filter on the camera lens or the equivalent of sunglasses to block light and extend the exposure time.  I really like how the golden sunset light dances across the image. This was all done in camera with no editing afterwards.

Christiansborg Palace

This image is from a palace in Copenhagen. I was there on a work trip and a colleague is also a keen photographer. Once business was finished, we headed out to pre-planned locations and this was one. This was taken at dusk and the light really compliments the building. My colleague was good enough to model in the image and provide scale, context and a great focal point.  The image was taken on a iPhone14 with minimal editing.
