I like landscape photography but also do other genres such as nature, macro, flowers, architecture and portraiture. Landscape photography is all about the light. So getting good shots is about being in the right place when the weather is suitable for creating the pictures we want to make. It is a challenging task.

Wicklow Cottage

This is a famous photographic location in Glenmalure Co. Wicklow. The red roofed cottage is much photographed. I wanted to use the leading lines of the stones across to the open gate, with the water divided on both sides to make a visual journey to the cottage. The surrounding autumn colours of heather and trees with their colours reflecting in the river give the cottage context.

The image was taken from a low tripod at ISO 100, F/11, 15s, 31mm to catch the flowing river.

Golden Hour Tuscany

I used the leading lines on the grasses to visually lead one on a journey around this image. The evening golden hour light streaking across the landscape was the inspiration for this capture, showing an old stone house nestled between the hills. The surrounding cypress trees are typical of such Italian farmsteads.

The image was taken at ISO 100, F/8, 1/100s, at 400mm on a tripod.
