Vyvyon Styles

I am a retired in-house commercial and legal attorney.  I did a post grad in law at Trinity College, Dublin and post grad in procedural and substantive law in International arbitration at Keble College, Oxford. My first real job was working in a photographic laboratory, named Finglas laboratories Ltd..  'I worked there for almost 10 years and loved every day of it.  It was here where my love for photography started and grew'. I worked with Intel Ireland for almost 20 years and Verizon for almost 6.

I am currently doing a post grad in professional photography with The Photography Academy of Ireland and have successfully completed 8 of the 12 modules to date.  I joined Malahide Camera Club some years ago and my photography has gotten better year after year with the continual knowledge share by all the wonderful MCC Members.

GPO Dublin

This image was taken on Christmas Morning 2021.  My wife Barbara had just begun chemotherapy for breast cancer and we were both still taking it all in.  That morning, I got into my car and decided to photograph the GPO.  Not for any particular reason, because it was there I guess and where I had stopped my car.  That morning, O'Connell Street was so quiet and tranquil and was a respite from the challenges both Barbara and I had ahead of us. Then a bunch of young guys, from nowhere, began speeding up and down O'Connell St on their street bikes. They roared like lunatics and the bikes screeched like driving your nails down a blackboard.  They made a racket and completely disturbed the serenity I had just felt moments earlier. I looked around me and saw a few American tourists out for the morning.  We wished each other a happy and peaceful Christmas, said our goodbyes and I put my camera away and then drove home, shaking my head at the bike show I (we) had just witnessed.  What had Dublin become, I thought?  The image was taken with a Canon R6 ii and a wide angel lens.  Post work was done in Lightroom.

Golden Beach

I love this photo of Portran Beach.  Taken in 2022 on a late evening in summer.  The sand was golden and the light was fading and the pools of water in the forefront were all begging to be photographed.  I love the people in the image too, they are like little dots. This photograph was edited in LightRoom with a soft focus to make it dreamy.  The camera was a Canon R6 ii and a wide lens.
